Dr David  Yong grew up in Robina on the Gold Coast, and has studied in some of the best ranked universities in the world in Australia and abroad. Dr Yong began his academic career studying bachelor's degrees in Business and in Psychological Science, and later progressed to study Dentistry at Griffith University. After registering as a general dentist Dr Yong worked in public and private dental practices for several years in Newcastle. He developed a passion for root canal treatment and decided to pursue specialist training in endodontics in the University of Otago in New Zealand.

His studies culminated in a thesis detailing the production and testing of a novel bovine hydroxyapatite-calcium silicate dental cement. This research was later published in the peer reviewed journal science and engineering journal on endodontic biomaterials "Materials". Dr Yong has also published a clinically-based article on vital pulp therapy, in the Australian Dental Journal. In clinical practice Dr Yong utilises the latest technology in surgical magnification and 3D imaging to provide predictable evidence-based treatment to his patients. Dr Yong decided to return to South-East Queensland to establish Gold Coast Endodontics to focus his energies on the region and spend more time with family. Outside of work he enjoys cycling, travel and good food with family and friends.
